Dedicated Production Line

Offset Printing with Smyth Sewn Binding

Your hardcover book is produced through a book-focused offset production line. Interior pages are printed on press sheets, folded into signatures, sewn into a book block, and case bound with rigid boards.

1

Commercial offset printing

Interior pages are printed on a Heidelberg Speedmaster offset press, with Kodak film-making support for plate preparation. This helps produce sharper detail and more consistent results across the full print run.

2

Smyth sewn hardcover binding

We use Smyth sewn binding, a durable hardcover binding method commonly used for mainstream publishing projects. Printed signatures are folded and sewn together before casing in, creating a stronger, more professional book than typical glue-only POD binding.

3

Built for publisher level quality

We specialize in small to mid-size hardcover print runs, but the production standard is not “small.” Your books are made through the same commercial hardcover line used for mainstream publisher quality work.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you help if this is my first time printing a hardcover book?

Yes. Many customers come to us before they know all the production details. Send us what you are working on and your timeline. We can help you choose practical specs, understand what affects price, and plan the best shipping option for your project.

Why does hardcover pricing change so much by quantity?

Hardcover offset printing has setup costs for printing plates, materials, and binding production setup. A larger print run spreads those setup costs across more books, so the unit price drops as quantity increases. This is why quantity matters so much when planning a hardcover project.

Can I order a physical proof before the full run?

Yes. You can request a physical proof before full production. We offer digitally printed proofs and offset plate sheet proofs, usually ranging from $120 to $250 depending on what you need to check.

Physical proofs usually take 1-2 weeks to produce, then ship by air, which usually takes another 7-10 days.

How does payment work?

After the order details are confirmed, you pay a 50% deposit before production begins. When production is finished, we send photos of the completed books for review. The remaining balance is due before the books are shipped.

How long does hardcover production and shipping take?

Most hardcover production takes 2-4 weeks after your production approval. Ocean shipping is our budget-friendly option and usually takes about 30 days after production. If you need books sooner, ask about split shipping, with part of the order shipped by air and the rest by ocean. Air shipments usually arrive in 7-10 days.

What if my shipment arrives damaged?

If your shipment arrives damaged, contact us right away and send photos of the boxes. We will review what happened and help determine the next step. If it appears to be carrier damage, we can help with the claim process with UPS or FedEx. If the issue is on our side, we will work with you on a fair solution.

Have a book project in mind?

Send us your specs, files, or questions. We will help you choose the right hardcover format, add-ons, proofing path, and shipping method.
