FAQ
Textbook printing questions
What is the minimum order for textbook printing?
Most offset textbook projects start at 250 copies. Printing 500, 1,000, or more copies usually lowers the cost per book.
What binding is best for a textbook used every day?
Smyth-sewn softcover is a durable and cost-effective choice for most coursebooks. Hardcover is better for books reused over several years, while Coil or Wire-O is best when the book needs to stay open for writing.
What paper is best if students need to write in the textbook?
Uncoated paper is easier to write on with pencil or pen and is usually better for workbooks and exercises. Coated paper is better for textbooks with photographs, diagrams, and full-color images.
Can some pages be in color and others in black and white?
Yes, but it may not always reduce the cost. Offset books are printed in folded page sections, so the number and placement of the color pages matter. If most of the book is black and white and the color pages are grouped together in a middle section, we may be able to print it that way. This requires a custom quote, so contact us with your page plan and book specifications.
How early should I order before the semester begins?
We recommend starting at least two to three months before your required delivery date when using ocean shipping. This allows time for file review, proof approval, production, and delivery.
Can I review a physical proof before production?
Yes. A digitally printed bound proof can help you review the paper, binding, page order, size, and overall feel of the book, but its color may vary from the final offset run. If you want to see how the production color will turn out, order an offset sheet proof. It uses the same offset setup and press process as the full production run, making it the better option for color review.
