Dust Jackets FAQs

Can I order dust jackets only, or do you need to print the book too?
It needs to run with the book order. We do not offer dust jackets as a separate standalone order.

What paper and finish options do you offer for dust jackets?
We offer two paper thicknesses for dust jackets: 105 lb and 12 pt. 105 lb is the standard option and is very common in the U.S. market. It is about the same thickness as a heavier art book interior page. 12 pt is thicker and is more common in the Asia market, with a feel closer to a paperback cover. For finish options, dust jackets can also use standard cover finishes such as UV, foil stamping, and embossing.

Does the dust jacket come with creased lines?
Yes.

What flap width should I plan for on a dust jacket?
In our template generator, the flap width is set to almost half of the book width by default. You can still adjust it if you want. In general, the flap width usually falls between one-third and one-half of the book width.

Can you make a dust jacket for a book printed elsewhere?
No. The dust jacket has to be combined with the book order.

Can dust jackets be used on perfect bound books too?
Yes. Dust jackets are often associated with hardcover books, but they can also be used on the right perfect bound project. The main point is not the binding category. It is whether the jacket improves the presentation in a way that makes sense for the book. On a premium softcover edition, a jacket can add a more elevated or giftable feel. It also changes the setup and sizing requirements because the flaps and creases still need to match the actual book dimensions. If you want to explore that option, use the dust jacket page and make sure the final perfect bound size and spine details are already being planned accurately.

Why is the pre-crease line important on a dust jacket?
The pre-crease line is important because it controls where the dust jacket folds and wraps around the book. Since the dust jacket is ordered together with the book, the pre-crease line is already handled on our end and matched to the book during production. There is nothing extra you need to do on your end for that part.
