What this video shows

This video shows the case-making step before the book block is attached to the cover. On the right side, the trimmed printed cover sheet is picked up by suction and pulled into the middle station. As it moves, a thin layer of glue is brushed onto the paper.

On the left side, another arm picks up the greyboard pieces. The cover paper and board meet in the middle, with the printed paper on the bottom and the board on top. The board is pressed into position on the glued paper.

After that, the four edges are turned in. The metal edge guides press the paper around the board, folding the cover paper neatly over all four sides. This forms the completed hardcover case cover.

What happens after the case cover is made?

After the case cover is formed, it moves to the next hardcover production steps. Later, the prepared book block is attached to the case during casing-in, which is when the book starts to become a finished hardcover.
